Nokomis sits in the ZIP 55406 corridor along the south side of Minneapolis, built out mostly in the early-to-mid 20th century. The homes here reflect that era: bungalows, two-stories, and craftsman-style houses that were often finished with plaster and stucco exteriors. Lake Nokomis anchors the neighborhood to the west, and the surrounding streets are lined with mature trees and older stock housing that needs real maintenance attention, not a quick patch job. The neighborhood blends long-time owners with newer families who bought in and want to preserve the character of what they got.
Minnesota winters hit Nokomis hard. The freeze-thaw cycle through January and February puts stress on any exterior wall system, and stucco is no exception. Water gets into small cracks, freezes, expands, and opens them wider. By spring, what looked like a hairline crack in October can be a serious moisture problem. Summers bring humidity that plaster and stucco absorb over time. If your exterior hasn't been touched in ten or fifteen years, it's worth getting someone out to look at it before the next winter cycle starts.
